What This Workshop is About
Little is known about the author of this magnificent and widely celebrated text called Yoga Darshan. Amongst many other things, this text explores the phenomenon of the human mind, going into extensive detail about how it functions, and how it acts as the primary barrier to the recognition of who we are, at our deepest and most fundamental level. It puts forth, as so much of yoga philosophy does, that our real essence is totally beyond the confines and limitations of the mind, and posits that unless the mind is understood, trained and ultimately mastered, this essence will continue to be concealed behind the mind's created illusions. The brilliance of this text is that it not only offers a philosophical, and often poetical, explanation of the nature of the mind, it also offers a detailed practice on how to unfold the mind’s latent power, so that it can become an instrument which helps us in the realization of the authentic self.

Meet your instructor, Hali Schwatrz
Hali has been both immersed in, and captivated by the world of yoga since she was a girl of just nine years old. Her very first teacher was her mother, who had just begun her own lifelong journey into the heart and soul of yoga and its myriad of practices. In 1987, when Hali was 19, she followed her mother to the northwestern Himalayas, where she had been living and studying in an ashram yoga community for more than a decade. It was here, at the International Meditation Institute (I.M.I), where Hali would begin her nearly four decades of intense study in the many branches of yoga philosophy, scripture study, Sanskrit, chanting & meditation, as well as a deep immersion into the lineages of both Hatha & Kriyā Yoga.
In 1999, Hali decided to dedicate her life to sharing the wisdom of yoga, and so would become a full-time yoga educator, international retreat leader, and trainer of yoga teachers worldwide. She is the author of two books: One Without a Second: the Seeds of Yoga Philosophy from Root to Sprout, and Yog and I: Living Philosophy for Teachers and Seekers. Hali is based in Toronto, Canada where she is known for her passion and enthusiasm in sharing the many philosophies and practices of yoga tradition to both students and teachers alike.
